Duurzaam Duinoord is organizing a cork fundraiser with which you can win great prizes! Collect as many corks as possible and hand them in on Saturday, June 1, 2024 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the Go Green Market at the stand opposite the Duinoord Library. For every 100 grams (approximately 20-25 corks) you will receive a raffle ticket. With this ticket you can win great prizes! Such as a refurbished Playstation 5 or a bouldering, bowling or skateboarding workshop for four people. See below how to participate.
Of course there is something to win! The main prize is a Playstation 5 Refurbished. And there are numerous activities to be won that you can do with 4 friends: Bouldering, Bowling or Skateboarding.
Because we are going to reuse the collected cork, we hunt for the 'clean cork'. These are corks from bottles and jars, they come in all sizes and shapes. You can also simply hand in a plastic cork that resembles a real cork. There are also corks with a wooden or plastic cap, which still count. We can also use cork coasters for cups or pans. If these are made entirely of cork, they are also welcome!
What we cannot use is cork with metal around it and corks with paint or line that have been used for crafting, for example. See the image below for an overview of what can and cannot be handed in. Are you in doubt? Just bring them with you and we will look at them together with our cork experts!
Duurzaam Duinoord has won the Energy from the Neighborhood Challenge. With the support of the municipality, we have set up a pilot: Duinoord Onder de Kurk. Together with EarthKweek we are investigating the application of sedum-cork cassettes on flat roofs. These insulate in winter and keep the heat out in summer. For more information about this test, see this page.
If the test is successful, we want to start a collective purchasing campaign. How nice would it be if we could make the cork containers (partly) from Duinoord cork. We would like to involve the neighborhood in our passion for cork. It is a sustainable natural product that is easily recyclable. Unfortunately, corks often end up as residual waste. And that is a shame because beautiful products can be made with collected cork. Our partner De Eker processes the collected cork into new products. You will find more information on this website www.corkcircular.com. Watch a video here of how the corks are analyzed and sorted.
Do you want to continue collecting cork after this campaign? You can do this via www.spullenbak.nl. In addition to cork, you can donate many other items there that others can then turn into something new. Both initiatives will be on the GoGreen market on June 1.
